Mountain Kisses

Shinano Primitive Sense Art Festival, Omachi, Japan 2025

“Mountain Kisses” draws inspiration from the delicate morning dew resting on flower buds, which flourish in abundance across the site. Created for the Shinano Primitive Sense Art Festival, the work responds to the festival’s enduring theme of water. Here in the mountains, the springs flow with remarkable purity—a source of pride and reverence for the local community.
The installation was situated within a cedar forest along the hillside, where countless fallen branches offered themselves as natural material. These became the framework for sculptural forms echoing the shape of flower buds. To evoke the glistening dew, I used recycled cotton fabric, taken from the linings of old kimonos, allowing memory and renewal to weave themselves into the work.
The bud measured approximately 3m long and were suspended in the trees allowing them to swing gently in the breeze.
